
We built this halogen heat lamp for one tough job: the brutal heat cycle of PET blowing. It’s all about hitting the preform—neck and body—with a quick burst of focused infrared, and doing it without turning the whole machine into a sauna. Here’s the thing about power: these lamps pack a lot of heat into a tiny footprint. You’re looking at 2,500 to 3,000 watts, usually running off a 400V line. That voltage choice keeps the current lower than 230V, so the wiring stays tidy and the contacts don’t get hot under the collar. The tube runs about 300mm long—just enough reach to warm the preform cleanly, without wasting energy on the surrounding parts. And it’s fast. Really fast. The filament is light, so it hits full output in seconds. No waiting around. We use the halogen cycle to keep the quartz envelope clear and the output steady over the life of the lamp. Quartz is perfect for shortwave infrared, which is exactly what you need for rapid surface heating. Then we finish it off with an R7s base—simple, two-pin, and proven. It locks in clean, repeatable contact, so swapping a lamp is quick. No rewiring. No fiddling. On an automatic blow molder, the lamp has to fire on cue, hold steady through the cycle, then cool down fast. That combo—high wattage, instant response, and a compact shape—makes it a natural fit for those cramped thermal zones. But with that kind of concentrated heat, you need to plan ahead. Airflow and shielding matter. Set those up right, and you get stable heating with fewer stops.
