Making IR Lamps That Actually Fit Your PET Blower
Here is the thing about PET blowing machines: regardless of the brand name on the side, the physics are pretty much the same. You need a concentrated blast of shortwave infrared energy to soften the preform, but you have to do it without melting the neck. We spent a lot of time making sure our quartz IR lamps just work. For about 95% of the systems out there, our lamps are a simple drop-in replacement. We just focus on three things: the electrical load, the size, and the heat output.
Getting the Power Right
We don’t believe in a “one size fits all” wattage. Your oven’s power supply dictates everything. While 230V is the standard, we offer 400V options for those heavy-duty industrial lines. Why? Because higher voltage lets us cram more power into a shorter tube without frying the electrodes. If you’re running a high-speed line, you need that intensity. Just a heads-up, though: when you’re pushing 2500W into a small space, your airflow has to be spot on. Otherwise, you’re just going to scorch your preforms.
The Hardware Side of Things
We use high-purity quartz glass because it can take the hit of rapid heating and cooling without cracking. As for the fit? We stick to industry-standard R7s and Sk15 connectors. No proprietary nonsense here. They slide right into your existing sockets, so you don’t have to spend your afternoon rewiring the whole machine. We also use halogen-filled tubes. This keeps the tungsten from thinning out and burning through, which means your lamps last a lot longer before you’re hunting for a replacement.
Why This Matters for Your Bottles
The goal is to hit the specific absorption bands of PET plastic. By tweaking the coating and the gas fill, we make sure the heat sinks into the preform wall evenly. This kills off those annoying “cold spots” that leave you with uneven wall thickness in your final bottles. And since we stick to global size standards, you can swap these into almost any European or Asian blower without having to mess around with the lamp holders. It’s just easier.
