That’s a waste. The secret is in the gold. We use a thin layer of gold on the reflector to change the way that heat moves. Gold is just better at bouncing infrared radiation than polished aluminum. Instead of a wide, wasteful spray of heat, it pushes everything forward. It turns that broad glow into a focused beam that actually sinks into the wood fibers.
